Tag – writing and books

Hello! This is a new venture for me and I hope you will stay the journey!  I aim to update this blog with thoughts (maybe), and new material (definitely) once a month. As we are living through the horrible conundrum of Covid 19 (feminine in French, for some reason!), I thought I would start with a riddle. I have published lots of riddles, but this one I have not. So here it is!  (If you like riddles, why not buy one – or both! – of my riddle books, WHO AM I? and MORE ANIMAL RIDDLES?)

I am a pretty rodent,

with lovely dark brown eyes.

I sleep a lot but do wake up

at night, with starry skies!

I also sleep when it is cold.

That is called hibernation.

In summer I drop off as well,

that fits my reputation!

With a lovely fluffy tail,

I’m really rather sweet.

The Romans also thought I made

a really tasty treat!

Grey squirrels eat our hazelnuts.

But we need more and more,

for shorter winters cut our sleep

we need more than before!

Our nests may be in hedges

or in a hole in trees.

We wrap ourselves in piles of leaves

so that we do not freeze!

Now you’ve read my riddle

just tell me, what’s my name.

If you don’t know don’t worry

I’ll tell you all the same!

Good health and good luck  to us all, bye for now, and do tell your friends to visit my blog!

After many years working as a clinical psychologist in the NHS, I became an author. My years as a mother and grandmother gave me plenty of practice telling children stories. I have become very interested in dinosaurs and animals, and I really enjoy rhymes and riddles!

  1. I thought it was a hedghog, but they don’t have lovely fluffy tails. So I’m at a loss to indentify this rodent
