Abraham and the Idols

Idols were my father’s trade,
he made them thick and thin.
I told him that I could not join
the business he was in.

One day I smashed some idols up
of Nimrod, he was King.
I said the biggest with an axe
had done this dreadful thing!

Nimrod had me jailed a year.
An angel came to see.
He did all that was necessary
to feed and water me!

The Warden of the Jail was shocked,
I was alive not dead!
“A prophet of the Lord Ha-Shem,
that’s what you are,” he said.

The hangman tried to use his sword
as Nimrod told him to.
The blade broke into splinters and
it could not pierce me through!

Nimrod’s anger did not turn.
“Burn him,” he said “by fire.
Go fetch the wood and fan the flames
then put him on the pyre!”

The Lord Ha-Shem in Heaven above
then sent a lot of rain
to pour upon the burning fire
till I was safe again!

After many years working as a clinical psychologist in the NHS, I became an author. My years as a mother and grandmother gave me plenty of practice telling children stories. I have become very interested in dinosaurs and animals, and I really enjoy rhymes and riddles!
